By eleven suicide car bombs today, more than 150 innocent people were killed in Baghdad which fell in the hands of the terrorists whom Jafari, the Prime Minister, said he is defeating. In today's post, I would like to thank him and thank all those in his government for their failure.
Thank you "Dr. Jafari" for keeping your promise in "protecting" us. Thank you for all what you did to save the lives of the poor who were killed today. Thank you for making your "heroes" succeed and proceed in killing the terrorists who are proud to kill innocents. Thank you for liberating Tal Afar instead of liberating Baghdad. Thank you for deceiving us before the elections. Thank you for appointing your "successful" ministers of interior and defense. Thank you for making them the reason behind the "great performance" in protecting the people. Thank you for fighting "the infiltration" of the terrorists among your men. Thank you for the continuous "victory" shows on TV channel while other people are being killed and wounded outside the building of this station. Thank you in speaking with the "dialogue language" with the terrorists who don't care. Thank you for making Baghdad clean and prosperous. Thank you for providing electricity, water, and fuel. Thank you for providing jobs for the jobless. Thank you for saying the truth. Thank you healing our wounds. Thank you for uniting Iraq and finally, thank you for making Baghdad fall for the second time!!

No blame for the actual terrorists who set off the bomb?
ReplyDeleteYou demand your new government protect you from those who attack you....
ReplyDeleteYou criticize your government because it has not yet won a very difficult war.
What are YOU doing to support your government?
What are YOU doing to help create your new nation?
This is YOUR country. FIGHT to protect it! Get off you ass and quit complaining!

Treasure of Badhdad.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your post.
Through your work in your blog, you are making a difference.
Jim seems to have a good heart, but he might not have any idea what it is to be right there, I think.
I cannot imagine your pain. Please know that there are people praying for you and working to end the insanity responsible for these murders.
ReplyDeleteYou have a beautiful blog. Don't quit. (Delete those first two spam posts in the comments. They look obscene among these comments.)
May God give you strength to prevail in this evil time.
Jim,
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean. You are asking me if I did something to my country. I did a lot. During college, I always got the highest marks. Do you know why? Because I wanted to be the best to serve my country. Do you know what I am doing now? I am working as a reporter and I chose this job to serve my country. I put myself in danger every single day to make the people in the world see what is happening in the country. My role in this country is bigger than you expect. Are you asking me to fight? Is fighting done by carrying weapons only? The pen and the power of word are more powerful than the RPG or the mortar. I work 14 hours a day to serve my country. Now, you tell me, what did you do to serve your country??!
The terrorists have confessed several times that they want to kill the poeple, innocent people. So, shall we blame a killer whose main aim is to kill? in my opinion, we have to blame the ones who said they committed themselves to defeat these terrorists and killers.
ReplyDeleteIf you study world history - i.e. the downfall of the Nazis, you will see that the war wasn't won overnight, but it was, with the commitment of the people, won eventually. It does no good to blame those in your new gov't. BLAME THE KILLERS- those who seek to discourage you...and might think they are winning,(they are not !) if they read your post blaming the gov't. You allow the terrorists to celebrate when they read a post like that. These terrorists would behead your children. Do NOT show them they are succeeding because they had one day of bombs. When the Iraqi people stand up united, your country will be free and peaceful.
ReplyDeleteAnd to those who might ask what I've done, our son has just finished his second back to back deployment. He commanded a platoon conducting security for convoys all over Iraq. He is a U.S. Marine and cares so much that Iraq becomes safe longterm for the children. We are in a community group here that has sent over 2300 packages to Iraq, many to the schools and orphanages.
IRAQIS -UNITE TO SAVE YOUR BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY AND IT'S FUTURE, FOR THE CHILDREN, AND GENERATIONS TO COME !
The terrorists have confessed several times that they want to kill the poeple, innocent people. So, shall we blame a killer whose main aim is to kill?
ReplyDeleteUm, err... That's a hard one... Let's see (I'm just guessing here...)Yes?
Generally speaking, deliberate evil is considered worse that that caused by accident or incompetence. That said, with so many innocent people killed and injured there is enough blame go go around. There is certainly enough to be angry with Jafari for his lack-luster performance and still properly assign most of the blame to the murdering bastards who are blowing up innocent people at random.
It is very hard to protect a big city against terror attacks. The IRA succeeded with many attacks in London, where there is a big well organised police force. There have been many successful suicide bombings in Israel, which is always at a very high level of security. I think you are asking more of your embryonic government than it can possibly deliver at this stage.___However, an important part of the defense is to block the entry routes from Syria and other countries. Tal Afar is crucial for defending Baghdad - it is no good waiting until they have reached Baghdad and then trying to catch them.___I see the Americans destroyed another big car bomb factory yesterday. There is no solution but to keep going on with searches in all towns and capture of as many terrorists as possible.___The legal system will be struggling too.___I wish there were an easy answer to terrorist tactics, but there is not. Keep your ears open and if you hear anything suspicious, report it on the hot line.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could say something, as Fayrouz suggested on her site, to cheer you up. I can't think of anything reasonably calculated to cheer you up. The last time when I experienced this feeling was at a funeral. All that I could do then was to be present, offer my condolences and to listen and to share the grief. That is all that I can do now. I am sorry for your loss.
ReplyDeleteOn one occasion, my friend lost a loved one. Rather than blaming the disease, he blamed the doctors whom he felt had not tried hard enough. I thought it curious at the time that he knew enough not to blame God, but not enough to blame the disease. Other persons that I have known have little hesitation in blaming God, and others simply blame no one in particular, chalking bad/evil events up to yet another indication that the world we live in is indeed a fallen one.
How you view these situations is your choice. I say this on a personal level, having experienced loss, and having recognized that it was a choice. Unfortunately, the choice you have made to blame your government is precisely the choice that the bombers intend that you make. Cancer has no design to make physicians look bad, but this bombing cancer does.
Like Jim F., I take pleasure in leaving nasty comments on people's blogs, just to make myself feel better. But perhaps he might have also offered something constructive and postive from his own similar experience living in a country at war and devastated by terror and violence. I, on the other hand, have not had experiences like yours and Jim F's, so I can only imagine what I would do in your situation: fight daily the depression that comes from watching the country and people you love suffer. Sharing those struggles with others in a public venue in which you open yourself to attack and narrow-mindedness seems to me to be a valuable act and I am grateful to you for your courage to write. For all we know, you may be doing something else to actively support the efforts of your people but given that stating your name and occupation will most likely get you killed. I am grateful that you are willing to give us this much. Thank you so much for your perspective.
ReplyDeletePerhaps one day Iraqis will be free to critize what they perceive, first-hand, as ineptitude on the part of their government without having to endure average U.S. citzens trying to convince them that they know better.
ReplyDeleteI agree. You should be allowed to criticize your own gov't without us pretending we know better.
ReplyDeleteI do not know the pain you have endured day after day. I only know the pain of September 11, 2001. I will always know that pain. I does not go away. I just learn to live again.
What you are doing as a reporter is very important. Please do not allow anyone to corrupt you. Sometimes that happens in our business. It is sad to watch.
I send my condolences to all who are in pain, who are weeping, who have died, who are injured. I want to find every terrorist and strangle him with my bare hands. I am but a small woman. That is how much I hate this.
Keep your strength, your faith, and your hope. Baghdad will rise very high! Try to have a nice day.
Honest reporting is fighting. So is informing. Ultimately that is the single best weapon the Iraqi citizens have. They must rise up and take a part in their future or all will be lost.
ReplyDeleteIn our country we have bred a class to believe that everything is the government's responsibility. Your country under Sadamm was much that way also. It is a hard habit to break but there is no other way.
Our prayers are with you. I would love to visit your country in peace in the years to come. I would love to experience "ancient," not just "old."
